A note from me
Hello,
Journalism is a new chapter for me and, in many ways, a second career.
I've come to it after years working across criminal justice, legal advocacy, public interest research, information rights and data protection, but I'm still very much at the beginning of learning the craft of journalism itself.
That is part of what makes this stage exciting.
I'd really like to get to know other journalists who are starting out too. If you're trying to find your feet, building your first investigations, learning how to work with sources, making mistakes, figuring out what kind of journalist you want to be, or simply wondering whether everyone else knows what they're doing, I'd be very happy to hear from you.
I'd also love to get to know more experienced journalists.
There is an enormous amount I still want to learn, particularly about investigative methods, reporting craft, source relationships, interviewing, newsroom practice and building a sustainable career in journalism.
I'm not looking for formal mentoring or anything grand. I'd just genuinely like to meet more people in the profession, learn from others, exchange ideas and hopefully contribute something useful in return.
One of the things I value most about journalism is that it does not have to be solitary. Good reporting often grows from people sharing knowledge, challenging each other's thinking and helping one another get better at the work.
So whether you are on your first story or your thousandth, feel free to say hello.
Ryan
